In this guitar lesson tutorial, we look at how to play the Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel. The song was written by Paul Simon in 1963/64 and appeared on the duo’s first album ‘Wednesday Morning 3.A.M’. The first verse of the song is fingerpicked, probably using a thumb pick, and uses the chords of Am, G, C, F, Asus2 and Fmaj7. The rest of the verses are strummed using the same chord sequence with a rhythm of 1 2+3 4+, played using downstrokes. The song finishes with two bars of fingerpicking and a single strummed Asus2 chord play with an upstroke.
